In the quiet hills of Northern Athens, betwixt the flowing creeks of Sandy and Noketchee, a wild rabbit stirs in its burrow under a large beech tree. Was it the familiar scent of simmering dandelion roots or the cottonwood buds wafting in the wind? Or perhaps the timing, it being the midway point between winter solstice and spring equinox, a seasonal shift gently awakening all of the forest. Whatever the reason, the rabbit sent out its call: "I am here," and the message was received in a nearby burrow. The rabbits came together, sharing dandelion root tea and acorn cookies, unraveling life's mysteries and laughing in the magic of another season come anew.

Susan has always followed nature, from a little child exploring the wilds of the creeks and plains of Oklahoma, to the piedmont of North GA where she was raised. She followed nature all through highschool studying with naturalists from Fernbank and Emory and then right into college here in Athens studying Ecology, Entomology, and getting a Master’s in Environmental Education. Plants were always her interests, as well as their gifts of medicine and more. Diving deeper in the plant medicine realm by apprenticing with Herbal Elder, Leslie Williams, in the SouthEast as well as studying with Herbalists Patricia Howell in Clayton, GA, and Phyllis Light in Alabama among many other wise women and men who were brought up in this way of knowing and learned it from their rich roots handed down by generations of people before them. Susan teaches children as well as adults in Athens and has taught out in Nature for over 25yrs, listening to the resonance of plants and the wisdom of children and elders. She enjoys sharing what she has learned and experienced over time with others to help reconnect people back with the plants that they know in their bones.

Caitlyn is first and foremost a mother, a country mouse who finds her home among the fields and forests of Oglethorpe County. Organic vegetable farming was her bridge to medicinal plants and once that door opened it led her further down the path of all things wild. She’s still on the journey of reconnecting to the land and herself and learning from the plants, people and animals she comes in contact with.
