Leave those who are pecking over the carcass of the earth to their dying beliefs and the rest of us can get on with rebuilding relationships, stories, knowledge and place. Quietly and with the people. -Tyson Yunkaporta

Wild Athens is a family-friendly community rooted in connection.
We gather to build real relationships across ages, backgrounds, and experience levels because we believe strong communities are the foundation of resilience.
While we come together to learn traditional, earth-based skills from hands-on crafts to land-based practices, these skills are not the end goal. They are the doorway. The heart of Wild Athens is community.
In today's rapidly changing world, it is more important than ever to remember our place in the wild, as part of the living web that connects all life. Our mission is to learn and live in ways that are restorative and regenerative rather than extractive, and to cultivate true community with one another and the more-than-human world.
Our aim is do this through:
Learning about the plants that grow in our unique bioregion for food and craft (i.e. tulip poplar bark baskets in late Spring, acorn processing in the Fall)
Making food, crafts and medicine from invasive plants which helps to decrease their stronghold on the environment while also valuing the gifts they share with us (i.e. Japanese Knotwood tincture and Kudzu basketry)
Learning the stories of the land and waters from the teachers and elders in our communities
Collaborating with other people and organizations in the Athens area that share similar goals for habitat restoration, social justice and mutual aid
and so much more!
Our next gathering is slated to be in July. Check back for details.
